This site is home to Alea Publishing & Recording, specializing in music for the bass clarinet.
We offer a growing catalog of creative, artistic transcriptions and new works for bass clarinet solo & ensemble.
Concertos - whether featuring a single soloist or multiple - are an important element of the prolific catalog of the Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). This concerto, originally for two cellos and strings, is very effective in transcription for two bass clarinets and piano. We have maintained the original key of G minor, placing the bass clarinetists in the comfortable A minor. Extended-range instruments are required, but only for a few occasions within the work; with a few minor edits, the work could be performed with instruments without the low-C extension.
Individual movements or the complete work would make an excellent choice for recital, contest, or audition for students of all ages. The work offers the bass clarinetist excellent challenges of building range, technique, and breath control, as well as an opportunity to perform the work of a master composer of the Baroque period. Because of the close counterpoint between the two solo parts, there are also excellent challenges for intonation and careful phrasing. As was common for works of this period, the composer provided very little direction in terms of dynamics or articulation; we have maintained the composer's original markings, therefore leaving some decisions to the discretion of the performer.
Extended-range instruments required. Piano score: 22 pages, spiral bound; Parts: 4 pages each, booklet format.

Kim Davenport
President
Duo Alea, the father-daughter duo of Michael and Kimberly Davenport, began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Alea catalog has now grown to include over 300 titles. We pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
Following Michael's passing in 2019, Kim has taken over solo management of Alea Publishing. In 2020, Alea established the Dolphy Prize, an annual composition award for new works for bass clarinet by black composers.
