A contemporary of Bach, Handel, Scarlatti and Telemann, Jean-Philippe Rameau was one of the most important composers of the Baroque era. Although he is primarily known today for his operas, his output was large and diverse, including both sacred and secular vocal works, and a substantial number of instrumental pieces.
These arrangements for clarinet and bass clarinet duet are taken from a few of Rameau's many charming pieces for solo keyboard. Keys have been changed, but the range and relationship between the parts remains faithful to the original.
Volume 1 contains two short Minuets. The range is very limited for both players, and with simple rhythm and few technical demands, these pieces (either alone or as a set) would make for excellent teaching material for young students, or perhaps a nice choice for a first ensemble performance.
Volume 2 contains two slightly longer and more challenging pieces. An extended-range bass clarinet is NOT required, but much more of the range of the instrument is utilized in this volume than in the first. These pieces would again make for excellent teaching material, and could be added to a recital or contest program either individually or as a set.

Duo Alea, the father-daughter duo of Michael and Kimberly Davenport, began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Alea catalog has now grown to include over 300 titles. We pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
Following Michael's passing in 2019, Kim has taken over solo management of Alea Publishing. In 2020, Alea established the Dolphy Prize, an annual composition award for new works for bass clarinet by black composers.
