This site is home to Alea Publishing & Recording, specializing in music for the bass clarinet.
We offer a growing catalog of creative, artistic transcriptions and new works for bass clarinet solo & ensemble.
About the Work
The Concerto for Bass Clarinet with Chamber Orchestra: "From Gotland" by American composer Dan Pinkston is an excellent addition to the concerto repertoire for bass clarinet. The work is dedicated to bass clarinetist Bruce Belton. We are delighted to make the work available, both for study with piano reduction, and as a full performance score/parts set.
The single movement work (duration ca. 18 minutes) is scored for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, timpani, percussion, harp, and strings. The solo part makes full use of the expressive range of the bass clarinet with extension to low-C, but does not require use of the altissimo register or modern techniques.
Bass Clarinet: 8 pages, booklet. Piano reduction: 19 pages, spiral bound. Full score: 42 pages, spiral bound. Orchestral parts: 4-8 pages, booklet.

About the Composer
Dan Pinkston is an American composer whose works include two commissioned symphonies, a violin concerto, many published choral works, and chamber works in various media. His many stylistic influences include the classical avant-garde, rock and heavy metal, and the African drumming of his childhood spent in Africa. Formerly a professor of music theory and composition at Simpson University in California, Pinkston has recently relocated to Kentucky to join the faculty at Asbury University.
Duo Alea began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As both performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Bach Suites, the Alea catalog now includes over 250 titles. As performing musicians ourselves, we pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
In June 2020, we announced the creation of the Dolphy Prize for new works for bass clarinet by Black composers.
