This site is home to Alea Publishing & Recording, specializing in music for the bass clarinet.
We offer a growing catalog of creative, artistic transcriptions and new works for bass clarinet solo & ensemble.
We are delighted to feature in our catalog this wonderful collection of studies by Dr. Kristen Denny-Chambers.
This sequel to Book 1 contains 40 all-new études along with 18 additional études reimagined for low C clarinets. Hang on to your hats because this book is tougher, BUT you will still have fun with a ton of variety and new challenges to overcome with the mastery of each piece. In Book 2, you will find several light-hearted but challenging études in compound meter, a variety of waltzes, circus and cat-themed music, many deep and reflective melodies, broadway inspired tunes, dark and brooding pieces, études representing the four seasons, nods to Americana and plenty of feel-good music of celebration in a variety of styles. Additionally, there are three jazz-influenced tunes and one klezmer piece. For those new to jazz and klezmer, have no fear! Jazz and klezmer tips are included in a little mini-lesson in the appendix.
Aside from “Tom’s Skotshne,” the range never exceeds altissimo C#, making the book accessible to the entire clarinet family. Part 1 features mostly 3rds and 4ths and Part 2 contains tri-tones, perfect 5ths and minor 6ths. Part 3 includes revised études devoted specifically to low clarinets with the majority for low C clarinets.
Well-suited for advancing pre-college students, undergraduate and graduate level music students as well as devoted clarinet enthusiasts, this sequel is sure to technically challenge and musically satisfy those who aspire to solidify finger fundamentals.

Kim Davenport
President
Duo Alea, the father-daughter duo of Michael and Kimberly Davenport, began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Alea catalog has now grown to include over 300 titles. We pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
Following Michael's passing in 2019, Kim has taken over solo management of Alea Publishing. In 2020, Alea established the Dolphy Prize, an annual composition award for new works for bass clarinet by black composers.
