About the Music
Impromptus a Revueltas is an expressive and dramatic single-movement work for bass clarinet and string quartet, making a wonderful addition to the repertoire. An extended-range bass clarinet is required, but there is no use of altissimo register or modern techniques, making the work accessible to a collegiate-level player.
The work was commissioned by the Mexican clarinetist Dr. Alejandro Moreno in 2018, and was recorded with the Arcano String Quartet (México, 2019).
Score: 29 pages, spiral bound. Parts: 7-8 pages each, booklet.
About the Composer
Winner of the National Prize for Music in Composition 2019 from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Costa Rica, Sergio Delgado is a clarinetist and composer; he graduated with honors from the Conservatory of Castella and the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica. He has studied composition and orchestration with Benjamín Gutiérrez and Alejandro Cardona and received master classes with renowned international clarinetists such as Philippe Cuper, Ronald van Spaendonck, Jorge Montilla, Juan Ferrer, Antonio Saiote, James Campbell, and composers such Jennifer Higdon, Miguel del Águila, Lorenzo Palomo, among others.
Duo Alea, the father-daughter duo of Michael and Kimberly Davenport, began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Alea catalog has now grown to include over 300 titles. We pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
Following Michael's passing in 2019, Kim has taken over solo management of Alea Publishing. In 2020, Alea established the Dolphy Prize, an annual composition award for new works for bass clarinet by black composers.
