About the Music
Composer Mónica Cárdenas is a strong believer in the importance of training in rhythm, and we are delighted to add her Rhythmic Training Exercises to our catalog. As she says about these exercises, "rhythmic training is complementary, that is, important for perfecting the works that are learned with the clarinet or bass clarinet or any instrument. The best way to understand rhythm is by hitting it, what better than the cajón for practice."
In this volume, for use in K-12 schools or music schools, students are invited to practice short two-part exercises using the cajón. This volume would make an excellent addition to any K-12 music classroom or teacher's studio. Visit our Etudes/Studies page to find the other volumes in this series.
The 14-page volume contains 40 exercises.

About the award-winning composer Mónica Cárdenas, critics say, "she offers us a precious mixture of cultures", "a very beautiful work that reflects interpretive enjoyment", "her works are a pleasant sound journey through the vast musical richness of the Latin American continent" (from different magazines of the musical world).
Her compositions for piano, chamber music, symphony and theater are performed on many international stages, and she herself is the one who also makes her piano compositions known, both, solo and in chamber music.
This is how Monica is placed among the Latin American pianists of international trajectory career and occupies a place among the most outstanding composers of the 21st century.

She was co-founder of the Cárdenas Trío with whom she had concerts on international stages.

Her recent contract with Alea Publishing, an American publisher specializing in bass clarinet music, has made possible the distribution of sheet music that Monica Cardenas has composed between 2016 and 2022. Thanks to the sales, her works are performed in many stages and she is invited to play her works for bass clarinet and piano at Festivals and concerts.
Among her productions as a composer and pianist, in 2015 she was invited to participate in the recording of "Anikousto" (works for flute and piano) where she performed her sonata in 3 movements "Festejo en sueños", composed in 2015.
In 2020 Mónica presented "Influence", a piece for string orchestra that is among the works on the CD "Espiral", with the interpretation of the Camerata Gala chamber orchestra from Cordoba, Spain and the production of Ibs Classical.

Kim Davenport
President
Duo Alea, the father-daughter duo of Michael and Kimberly Davenport, began performing music for bass clarinet and piano in 1996. As performers searching for new repertoire and teachers working with students eager to develop as performers, it quickly became clear that there was a need for more repertoire featuring the bass clarinet. Filling this need became the mission of Alea Publishing & Recording.
Since our first publication in 1997, the Alea catalog has now grown to include over 300 titles. We pride ourselves on the accuracy and quality of our sheet music, as well as our ability to ship directly to customers around the world.
We are proud of the diversity of our catalog in terms of the inclusion of works by composers and arrangers from around the world. We are interested in continuing to expand this diversity, representing musical ideas from around the world.
Following Michael's passing in 2019, Kim has taken over solo management of Alea Publishing. In 2020, Alea established the Dolphy Prize, an annual composition award for new works for bass clarinet by black composers.
